Supreme Court Postpones Ruling Party Leader Case In Anticipation Of Panels Ruling
Judges from Romania’s Supreme Court decided on Monday to postpone until February 18 the trial in which Social Democrat Party (PSD) leader Liviu Dragnea is appealing his prison sentence, to wait for a ruling of the court's United Sections regarding five-judge panels.

The Supreme Court’s United Sections are expected to decide on January 31 if currently pending appeal cases will be maintained with the panels selected in December 2018, or will be handed out to the new five-judge panels drawn this month.
The PSD chairman’s lawyer, Flavia Teodosiu, said that she suspects the request to transfer the case will not be admitted.
“From my point of view, this panel was illegally appointed, the draw was legal and the random allocation was correct. We will wait for the decision,” the lawyer said following Monday’s court meeting.
Liviu Dragnea was sentenced last June to three years and six months in prison for instigating abuse of office, as judges ruled that he played a key role in the fictitious hiring of PSD members at a Teleorman county social services agency.
