The company plans to have 150 premium gas stations in Romania and 400 under the Petrom brand, Schlang told a news conference Thursday.

Petrom has some 550 gas stations in Romania, including 124 under the PetromV brand.

In Romania, OMV has opened two gas stations under the „OMV Euro Truck” brand, targeting transporters, following an investment of some EUR1 million, said Steen Frederiksen, Business Line Director – Commercial Road Transport at OMV.

Frederiksen added the company plans to open another one or two gas stations, while next year there would be six such units in Romania.

Romanian fuel sales decreased by 10% to 12% on the year in the first quarter, below expectations, and the situation is expected to worsen further due to recent austerity measures announced by the government, Schlang said.

The company is majority owned by Austria’s OMV (OMV.VI), with a 51% stake. Romania’s Economy Ministry and investment fund Fondul Proprietatea hold 20.6% and 20.1% in Petrom, respectively, while the remaining shares are traded on the Bucharest bourse.

At around GMT1040 Thursday, Petrom shares were up 1.35% on the day at RON0.3.
