Szeckler Council Asks Romanians On Conditions To Support County’s Autonomy

The National Szeckler Council will ask the communities of Romanians in the Szeckler county to state the conditions in which they would support the autonomy of the region, said on Tuesday Iszak Balazs, the council’s head.

Balasz said he disagrees with the term “territorial autonomy on ethnical criteria” as the autonomy of the Szeckler county confers the same rights to all its inhabitants.

“We ask for Romanians in the county to state the conditions in which they would support the autonomy issue before the Romanian parliament, “said the official.

He added he drafted a memorandum regarding the autonomy of the Szeckler county, which will be handed to deputies within the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council.

In order for the memorandum to be taken into consideration, it has to be supported by ten MPs from five countries.
