One Dead, 19 Injured In Passenger Bus Accident In Central Romania

Seven other passengers of a bus that hit a truck Thursday morning near Sibiu, central Romania, have been taken to hospital, taking the injured toll to 19.

One person, the bus’ spare driver, according to witnesses, has died and 19 others were injured when the passenger bus they were on hit a truck on the Sibiu beltway. Twelve people had been initially taken to hospital.

Hospital spokeswoman Raluca Pusca said the victims are aged 19 to 47 and most of them suffered multiple injuries and fractures. Two of them have been admitted to hospital.

The passengers of the bus are all Romanian and the bus was coming from Spain and heading for Bucharest. The bus belongs to transport company Saiz Tour and is registered in Spain.

According to the local police, the bus driver had a list of 55 passengers for the Spain-Bucharest ride and authorities have yet to establish how many people got off the bus before the accident.
