Romanian Pres Asks PM To Cancel The Car Tax

Basescu says in the letter that, in accordance with article 90 of the Treaty instituting the European Community, there can be not customs taxes on import and export, or taxes with similar effects, between member states.

He mentions that the courts with jurisdiction on Romanian soil decided that the stat should return the sums collected as first registration tax for cars and motorized vehicles, with the adequate legal interest.

"I hope you will take immediate and responsible action with respect for the rights of Romanian who, unfortunately, are the ones who bare the consequences of such actions that violate the legislation, community jurisprudence and the practice of courts in Romania," the president concludes.
