Romania, Hungary Agree To Build High-Speed Budapest-Constanta Railway Line

The Romanian and Hungarian governments agreed Wednesday to jointly build a high-speed railway line, on the route Budapest-Bucharest-Constanta, ministry sources told MEDIAFAX.

Attila Cseke, state secretary within the Secretariat General of the Government, said last week that the Hungarian part has a project for the construction of a high-speed railway line, starting from Paris and reaching Budapest, passing through Vienna, to which Romania wishes to connect.

The members of the two governments met in the third joint meeting of the past two years, holding as priority debate topics the development of the transport infrastructure through the simplification and decongestion of road and rail traffic in the two states, for passengers as well as freight, the joint construction of a high-speed railway line on the route Budapest-Bucharest-Constanta, and an agreement for the extension of the sectors in which Romanians might be employed in Hungary without a labor permit., support for Romania’s adhesion to the Schengen area and the highlight of the cultural patrimony of Romanians in Hungary, respectively that of the Magyar minority in Romania.
