„At this rate we will never get done. Every ministry has begun projects we cannot finish in ten years,” Udrea said in the Romania Construct Forum, hosted by MEDIAFAX. She added there are 46,000 current construction projects, worth around EUR40 billion.
If the budget proves insufficient, said Udrea, the ministry will seek private funding and start a EUR4 billion national development program, to run over the next five years. It would take the form of a public-private partnership, with participating construction companies funding the work for up to two years. The state would reimburse the companies in the next three years.
The minister believes this program will develop the water and sewerage networks of 1,500 towns and finance the construction and rehabilitation of more than 10,000 kilometers of county roads. She added the program, due to start in March 2011, will create thousands of jobs.
