Questiaux said the first half of the year will still be difficult, as no new construction projects are carried out.
Questiaux said the local construction market will revive if the Romanian Government takes the necessary measures to uphold the economical sector, start new construction projects and attract EU funds.
Lafarge Ciment is French group Lafarge’s main subsidiary in Romania. Lafarge has been operating on the Romanian market since 1997 and its main rivals on the local market are Germany’s HeidelbergCement and Swiss Holcim.
The cement sales of French group Lafarge in Romania dropped 34.4% by volume in 2009, due to the decrease in demand from the economic crisis, while prices remained stable.
For 2010, the group estimates a slight increase in the volume of cement sold in Romania, on higher or at least equal prices compared to 2009.
Lafarge’s sales in Central and Eastern Europe dropped by 42% in 2009 to EUR795 million from EUR1,374 million in 2008.
