The group will be run by the Environment Ministry and will also comprise officials of the Economy Ministry, Finance Ministry and Department for European Affairs, as well as an advisor to the Prime Minister.

Government representatives said at the Mediafax Talks about Auto Industry conference on Tuesday that the Executive will announce by the end of June whether the car pollution tax will be modified and what the modification entails.

According to Government officials, the new car pollution tax will enter force in 2011, if authorities decide to modify it.

The car pollution tax was implemented by the Government in April 2008, and was calculated taking into account the cars’ technical data and based upon the cars’ carbon dioxide emissions.

Romania’s Government estimates to collect more than EUR400 million from the car pollution tax this year.
