He said the Romanian stock market only accounts for some 5% of the country’s economy, especially the five regional investment funds, or SIFs, and the rest of the economy is virtually unaffected.
"The crisis on the stock market won’t affect Romanians because there aren’t that many players on the Romanian stock exchange and people refer to keep their savings in banks," Basescu said.
The Bucharest Stock Exchange board decided to extend Friday the pre-opening session for the trading of stock and derivatives until the end of the day, citing unfavorable international conditions.
