„UMB signed today the most expensive contract awarded by Romania on road infrastructure so far. The contract for the design and execution of the longest lot related to the mountain section II: Miercurea Nirajului – Leghin of the A8 Unirii Motorway, namely lot 2A Ditrău-Grinties, was signed, the constructor being the SA&PE Construct Association – Tehnostrade SRL – Euro Asfalt D.O.O. – Spedition UMB”, Irinel Scrioşteanu wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

According to it, the value of the contract is 6.14 billion, and the source of financing is provided from non-reimbursable European funds, through the Transport Program 2021-2027. The duration of the contract will be 54 months, of which 14 months for the design phase and 40 months for the execution phase.

The main works envisaged are 37.9 km of route length, 19 tunnels, the longest tunnel being 850 meters, 63 bridges and viaducts, the longest viaduct being the one over the Sabar River of 1134 meters, a road junction at Ditrău, connection with DN12 (Harghita County), temporary unloading at the connection with Lot 2B Grinţieş – Pipirig, to ensure the independent functioning of this lot, reinforced fences to prevent wild animals from reaching the roadway, S3 type service spaces with secure parking (100,000 sqm), short-term parking lots (left/right) and a Maintenance and Coordination Center.

The total length of the tunnels and viaducts amounts to 21 km, representing over 57% of the length of the entire lot.
