This year’s edition of Romanian Fashion Week, organized in the eastern Romanian city of Iasi, was postponed for spring 2010 on lack of funds, organizers said.

"We’ve decided to postpone this event because we want it to meet the standards we’ve imposed over the past years. Romanian Fashion Week is not just another fashion event, but a proven example of professionalism. Organizing a single edition implies a team of over 150 specialists and a budget ranging from EUR200,000 to EUR250,000,” organizers said in a statement.
"We are glad our traditional partners remained by our side despite economic hardships, but budget adjustments because of the global economic crisis have made it nearly impossible to cover all the costs this event implies,” organizers also said, adding they have called on the city mayor and the Ministry of Economy for support.
"Although Romanian Fashion Week is the engine of an industry that ensures tens of thousands of jobs and has a significant contribution to Romanian exports, the Ministry of Economy decided it is not worth supporting. We received the same answer from the mayor of Iasi, who said the event cannot benefit from support from the local budget,” said designer Irina Schrotter, who initiated the event.
For twelve annual editions, Romanian Fashion Week presented collections of Romania’s most important fashion designers and backed the debut of young designers.
