Police in the southern province of Styria, tipped off by their Hungarian counterparts, stopped a vehicle with Hungarian plates Sunday evening on the A2 motorway near Fuerstenfeld, on the way to Italy, local police said, quoted by AFP.
Three Arrested In Romanian Handball Player Murder
A 28-year-old Hungarian man, along with his 27-year-old girlfriend and another 31-year-old Hungarian, were arrested and were currently being questioned, it added.
Hungarian police meanwhile said that Austrian police had arrested two suspects, Gyozo Nemeth and Sandor Raffael, for the killing of Romanian handball player Marian Cozma, but that a third suspect was still on the run.
Romania’s attaché for Interior Affairs in Budapest, Ioan Bentze, confirmed for MEDIAFAX that the two arrested in Austria are Gyozo Nemeth and Sandor Raffael.
Cozma, 26, was stabbed to death and two teammates from MKB Veszprem were severely injured, during a fight outside a Veszprem nightclub in the night from Saturday to Sunday.
Serbian international Zarko Sesum, 23, suffered a skull fracture and Croatian Ivan Pesic, 20, was stabbed in the kidney, but neither's condition was life-threatening, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
The fight apparently degenerated between the handball team and a group of about 30 people, after Cozma's girlfriend was verbally abused outside the nightclub, AFP reported.
Sunday evening, over a thousand people took part in a ceremony at the Veszprem stadium to commemorate the slain player.
