Romanian Govt To Remove Monetary Guarantee For Presidential Hopefuls
Toader said the emergency ordinance that will be enacted by the Government in September maintains, in principle, the contents of the presidential elections law, with several amendments, and will be enacted as soon as the Parliament session begins
He added the initial proposition regarding the creation of a monetary guarantee for all presidential hopefuls has been eliminated. In addition, all candidates, in order to enter the race, need 200,000 signatures.
Also, the representatives of the technical commission in charge with the development of the normative act on the election of the president decided the proposition to create computer software that would detect double votes is no longer viable. Thus, the proposition has been dropped.
For voters wishing to vote in locations different from their towns of residence there will be special polling stations, in each locality.
Toader added the date for the presidential elections will be announced 45 days before voting, and candidacies will be filed 30 days before the date of elections.
