The license came into effect on January 28 and gives the company the right to export energy, to sell it to eligible consumers and other license holders. Moreover, the license allows Iberdrola Energie Romania to trade energy on the platforms of local energy market operator OPCOM.

In 2009, Iberdrola opened an office in Romania’s capital city Bucharest and announced it would build several wind farms of 1,600 megawatts installed power.

Iberdrola is one of the companies part of the joint-venture building nuclear reactors 3 and 4 at the country’s sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, of 720-MW power each.
