The highway will bear the designation A3 and have a legal maximum speed of 130 km/h.

Construction on the Transylvania Highway, between Brasov and Bors, started in 2004 on a EUR2.2 billion contract awarded to Bechtel. Work was halted in mid-2005, when authorities began to reanalyze the contracts signed by the previous government. As a result, the deadline for the highway’s completion, initially 2012, was pushed back one year.

According to a protocol signed in February between the Romanian Transports Ministry and Bechtel, the American company committed to complete 42 km of the Turda-Gilau segment and the viaduct between Suplacu de Barcău and Borş this year.

The Transports Ministry will pay Bechtel EUR420 million this year.
