Romanian Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu said mid-June he expects the report monitoring Romania’s progress under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism to be objective and note the country’s obvious progress through the past year.

EU member states such as Germany, France and the Netherlands have unofficially conditioned Romania’s accession to the border-free Schengen area to progress under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism.

The EC released an interim report on Romania on February 18, which listed the enforcement of the country’s new legal codes, prosecution of MPs and a coordinated anticorruption policy among the country’s main unresolved challenges.
