Romanian Leu Up Vs Euro, Most Appreciated In the Region

The Romanian currency gained almost 1% against the euro on Thursday and was the most appreciated currency in the region, dealers suspecting the central bank stepped into the market to support the leu.

The leu closed at RON4.27 to the euro, stronger compared with RON4.3050/RON4.31 against the euro at the end of Thursday’s trading session.

The central bank might have stepped into the money market to support the leu before and after computing the daily indicative, a dealer said.

The leu traded Thursday between a low at RON4.3130 to the euro and a high at RON4.2650 versus the euro.

The central bank computed Wednesday an indicative of RON4.2872 against the euro.

On the monetary market, overnight rates were at 13.82%-15.02% a year while weekly rates at 13.99%-15.51% a year.
