Romanian President Passes Law On Father’s, Mother’s Days

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Tuesday passed the law instating Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, which will be celebrated on the first and respectively second Sunday of May.

End-September 2009, the Romanian Parliament decided that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day will be celebrated, in turn, on the first and second Sunday of May, in a bid to achieve „balance between the two parents”.

The head of state also promulgated on Tuesday the law approving Government Emergency Ordinance 23/2008 on fishing and aquaculture, the law ratifying the agreement between the Romanian Government and the Bulgarian Government regarding labor legislation, social security, labor protection and health throughout construction works on a new mixed (road and railroad) border crossing bridge between the two countries at Calafat-Vidin, over the Danube, signed in Bucharest on July 25, 2008 and in Sofia on August 26, 2008, as well as the law amending Government Emergency Ordinance 126/2005 authorizing the Finance Ministry to represent Romania or other public institutions at the International Court for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
