Axinia said he wants to see if the unionists’ demands target wage hikes, adding part of employees could be laid off in order to keep the wage system within the wage fund ceiling.
The official stressed that transport minister Radu Berceanu plans to cut the management staff within the national railway company, citing the large number of division managers.
Axinia also said ministry officials are considering a unitary wage system in the railway sector, arguing the wages of employees in the passenger, freight and infrastructure sectors are different.
He also highlighted that, in the fallout of the economic crisis, the country’s passenger railway company CFR Calatori will keep train ticket prices unchanged.
Moreover, Axinia said he would do his best to prevent a 20% hike in tariffs of freight railway company CFR-Marfa starting February 1, as previously floated.
