Vehicle owners will receive notifications from their Toyota dealers and will be invited to have their cars checked. A check-up is estimated to last about half an hour.
The recall is a preventive measure and targets all vehicles indicated by Toyota Motor Europe, irrespective of whether vehicle owners have had any problems with their cars' gas pedals, Toyota Romania said in a news release.
Romania, as the rest of Europe, has not reported any accidents caused by defective gas pedals in Toyota cars.
"We apologize for the inconvenience we may cause our clients," said Toyota Romania general manager George Kyriazis, underscoring the recall is a precaution.
Toyota sales in Romania slumped 60% last year, to 3,996 vehicles.
Starting autumn last year, Toyota recalled more than eight million vehicles worldwide because of braking problems.
