Romanian Tourism Certification Process Sped Up

Tourism classification certificates and licenses will be issued 30 days after the operator files the necessary paperwork, as per an order of the Romanian Minister of Tourism, which reduces the waiting period and introduces new requirements on pensions in rural areas.

The methodology according to which tourism certificates and licenses are to be issued was published Wednesday in the Official Journal.

The interval between document submission and certificate release has been reduced to 30 days, because applications are now made through a standardized liability statement, filed by the applicant together with the paperwork proving the unit meets the requirements. Central public authority officials will check the unit’s compliance after authorization.

The methodology says newly-opened rural pensions must be located on a plot of land of at least 1000 sqm, excluding green space and parking. New agricultural tourism pensions must be located on a plot of at least 2000 sqm, excluding green space and parking, and away from sources of pollution.

The act also says lodging owners or managers must connect the unit to the integrated tourist records system within 60 days of it becoming operational.
