A female bear was stuck for about two hours on a rooftop Thursday morning in Brasov, central Romania, after it was sedated by an intervention team.
Tranquilized Bear Stuck On Rooftop Central Romania
The bear and her cub had descended from the woods into the city.
"We were alerted by locals who saw the bear and her cub wandering around their homes. We tried to get her to go into the street to lead her back to the woods,” said Flavius Barbulescu, head of the animal service within the mayoralty.
Barbulescu said traffic on the respective street was frozen for about two hours.
"It was a difficult intervention, as the bear had a very young cub. The cub couldn’t keep up with her and she didn’t want to head for the woods without it. The bear went into a household and hid in an attic and we decide to tranquilize her,” Barbulescu said.
As soon as she was sedate, the bear managed to break the attic window and climb on the rooftop.
"We moved very fast because she was sedate and could have fallen off the roof. We tied her and pulled her back into the attic," Barbulescu said.
The bear and the cub are to be moved in a reservation following the intervention of Cristine Lapis of the “Millions of friends” foundation.
