Alin Tise, head of the County Council in Cluj, told a news conference Thursday the costs for works on the new flight track are estimated at EUR88 million, and other EUR60 million will be needed to change river Somes’ course and for expropriations.

The 3,500-meter runway will allow transatlantic flights to land and take off and the investment is estimated at EUR88 million, Tise said, adding the airport submitted to the Transport Ministry the documents to obtain EUR45 million European funds within the sector operational program.

Tise said the money needed to change river Somes’ course will be ensured by the Water Administration Somes-Tisa from environment European funds. He highlighted the construction of the flight track entails expropriations of 120 hectares of land, adding costs needed for expropriations are not known yet.

Tise estimated works on the new runway will last for about 18 months, after expropriations are finalized and the river course is deviated.

Tise, County Council Cluj vice-president Radu Bica and Cluj-Napoca Airport manager David Ciceo attended Thursday the inauguration of the passage linking the two terminals of the airport, an investment estimated at EUR6 million.
