"We are determined to continue the general strike until owners understand they should talk to us heart-to-heart and understand they must solve our demands instead of seeking tricks to intimidate and provoke us. We’ll continue to protest and we’ll organize another rally to demand our rights,” deputy union leader Ion Iordache said Monday.
The union also said a protest rally would be held Thursday in Pitesti.
In a press release Monday, the union urged the ruling Liberal Party to abstain from making hostile comments regarding the strike, saying such statements might influence the court decision on the legitimacy of the strike. The ruling is due April 9.
"A verdict against this strike could have vast consequences internationally as to how human rights are observed in Romania,” the statement adds.
Dacia employees went on general strike Monday, March 24, after negotiations with the management failed. All further rounds of negotiations also failed.
Employees demanded a salary raise of RON55, while the management only offered a 12% raise applied to the gross average salary.
