The framework agreement was signed in the presence of Romanian Economy Minister Adriean Videanu and the US Ambassador to Bucharest Mark Gitenstein.

According to Pompiliu Budulan, Nuclearelectrica general manager, the minimum value of the contract is of $90 million, while the maximum one can reach $146 million. The costs may vary from nuke to nuke.

Nuclearelectrica, operator of Romania’s sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, has two active reactors that provide around 18% of the electricity consumption in the country. The company plans to build two other nukes in Cernavoda.

Nuclearelectrica is owned by the Economy Ministry and is the country’s second largest energy producer, after hydropower generator Hidroelectrica.
