The Moldovan Presidency said in a press release, Basescu told his counterpart the promised building materials will reach Moldova two weeks after Romania receives a request in this respect from Moldovan authorities.

Basescu also said Romania is willing to ensure all necessary support, so that Moldova can reconstruct the homes destroyed by floods and overcome the difficult situation the country is facing.

Moldovan civil protection authorities said Saturday the Prut level increased by 2.5 meters on its sector in Briceni, adding waters currently threaten to submerge 200 homes. The Prut has so far flooded 566 homes in Moldovan districts of Ungheni, Hancesti and Nisporeni, and 2,933 people have been evacuated.
