The president proposes that public officials’ confidential and public wealth statements should coincide, except for personal information, otherwise these statements would be irrelevant.
The president also pleaded that public wealth statements should be required of candidates for public office, a provision eliminated in the new law.
The president also proposes public officials should state whether any of their relatives conduct, themselves or via companies, business with taxpayer money.
The Parliament mid-May adopted a new law regulating the integrity agency, a EU-required anticorruption body which had been stripped of its main attributions following a Constitutional Court ruling. The new law was sent to the president for promulgation on May 14 and the 20-day term for promulgation is set to expire at the end of the week.
