Also, Qatar Airways might operate its first flight on the route Bucharest- Doha, with stopover in Budapest.
"No contract has been signed yet, but talks are underway with Qatar Airways, which is to operate flights on the Romanian market starting January 17, and with Pegasus, which is to operate starting January too", Tudor Jidav, general manager of the Bucharest National Airport Company, said Wednesday.
Flights will be operated four times per week.
Jidav said the return flight on the route Doha-Budapest-Bucharest is expected to be a success, adding that if other intercontinental carriers choose to operate on the Romanian market, Bucharest's international airport Otopeni is likely to become an intercontinental hub.
Pegasus operated its first flight in 1990, when it had only two aircrafts. The company has gradually become one of the leading airlines in Turkey, with a fleet of 32 aircrafts and flights to more than 100 destinations in 17 countries.
Qatar Airways, a five-star airline, eyes doubling its fleet to 110 aircrafts until 2013.
