Romanian Car Park Renewal Program Starts Monday, March 2 – Min
Nemirschi said auto producers enrolled in the first stage of the “Junk car” program will be told Friday how many cars they may sell within the first stage of the program.

The first stage of the program, which ends on May 29, was assigned 76 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2891) for the replacement of 20,000 cars. The government grants car owners a scrap bonus of RON3,800, higher than last year’s RON3,000. This year, the program includes cars older than ten years, while last year it only included cars older than twelve years.
The government plans to replace 60,000 old cars through the program this year, compared to 40,000 old cars in 2008.
The car park renewal program was assigned a total RON228 million this year and will unfold in three stages.
According to official data, last year’s program managed to replace 30,466 cars from the planned 40,000.
