Romanian police spokesperson, Raluca Seucan, said 36 search operations, of which 32 in southeastern county of Constanta, two in capital Bucharest and two in central county of Harghita, were conducted Monday morning to catch several people suspected of bank fraud by skimming or phishing, both in Romania and the USA.
People close to investigations said twenty people were arrested following raids and taken to the local organized crime department in Constanta.
Police officers' information revealed the suspects illegally accessed bank accounts of citizens in Romania and the United States by skimming or phishing.
Preliminary information indicate the suspects defrauded several U.S. citizens of $1 million, by cloning several websites and by phishing and skimming operations.
The same sources said the cyber crime ring has nearly 70 members.
