According to legal sources, the two police officers, Vasile Cioila and Petrisor Lazar, were targeted by a sting operation organized Thursday around 21.00 local time near the Titan store in Bucharest District 3. They were caught receiving 2,000 lei (EUR1 = RON3.8580) from a citizen.

The two officers told the citizen, who later turned them in, that they could help him in his knife possession case.

When anticorruption officers came out and blocked their path, the two officers found in a police cruiser rammed the anticorruption officers’ cars and managed to make a path through which they fled.

Anticorruption officers gave chase on Nicolae Grigorescu Boulevard and on several side roads and managed to cut off the suspects’ car. The police agent driving remained in the car while his accomplice left the car and started running on foot but was soon apprehended.

The two suspects were brought before the Bucharest Court, which issued arrest warrants in their name on charges of influence peddling.
