U.S. Backs No Candidate In Romania’s Presidential Race - Ambassador

Gitenstein also called on the media to act responsibly and report accurately.
"I urge Romanian citizens to examine all the candidates and cast an informed vote on election day," the U.S. ambassador also said.
"Everyone wants to know immediately where the U.S. stands, especially regarding the upcoming election. But we don't have a candidate. We have to be careful not to make statements on that front that could be misinterpreted, because the U.S. is not supporting a candidate," Gitenstein said in an interview published Monday on a blog hosted by the Wall Street Journal.
Romania, which holds presidential elections on November 22 with a runoff on December 6, is a NATO member and a long-time ally of the United States.
