In December 2009, Romania’s Prime Minister Emil Boc and Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat signed an agreement stipulating visa-free access for two to five years, for Romanian and Moldovan citizens who have been living close to the Moldovan-Romanian border for at least one year.
The agreement also stipulates crossing the border will require a valid passport and a small-scale border traffic permit.
The draft law ratifying the agreement between the two states was also endorsed by the Chamber of Deputies’ defense committee.
The committee president said Monday the agreement also stipulates the opening of three new border crossing points between Romanian and the Republic of Moldova.
The agreement is pending ratification by the Senate.
