Ukraine To Set Up Checkpoint On Serpent Island By Aug
The Ukrainian authorities already shipped 930 tons of materials for the construction of the checkpoint, the mentioned source reported.
Romania and Ukraine both dispute the Serpent Island, which is located in the Black Sea. On 16 September 2004, the Romanian side brought a case against Ukraine to the International Court of Justice in a dispute concerning the maritime boundary between the two States in the Black Sea.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko signed in mid January a decree transforming the Serpent Island into a free economic area.
