Romanian Transp Minister Sacks Manager Of Otopeni Intl Airport

Romania’s transport minister Radu Berceanu on Tuesday dismissed Sorinel Ciobanu as general manager of international airport Henri Coanda Otopeni, arguing the social democrats failed to issue a statement and clearly say whether or not they back Ciobanu for this position.

Berceanu sent a letter to social democrat deputy Prime Minister Dan Nica on Friday, June 19, urging the latter to take an official stand regarding Ciobanu’s appointment at the helm of Otopeni airport.

"At the meeting of the ruling coalition on June 22, I expect a written statement from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) to clearly say whether or not they back Sorinel Ciobanu for this position. If they fail to take an official stand in this respect, I will take it the social democrats discarded this proposition and I will subsequently dismiss Sorinel Ciobanu," Berceanu said in his letter.

Berceanu appointed Ciobanu head of Otopeni airport on June 18, replacing Gabriel Tara.
