Azerbaijan Offers Romania 7.3 BCM Of Gas For Nabucco – Sources

Thursday, the ministry’s state secretary Tudor Serban said that Romania was offered the option to receive 7.3 bcm of natural gas via Nabucco, declining to name the country that forwarded the offer. However, Serban said the offer is premised by Nabucco pipeline being up and running before the rival South Stream project.

„Azerbaijan submitted this offer,” the sources said.

Over the past months, Romania has carried talks with Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan and signed several protocols on energy cooperation.

Azeri state oil company Socar is holding talks with Romanian officials aiming to be involved in several local energy projects.

The Nabucco pipeline, whose construction will need investments of EUR8 billion, will deliver approximately 31 billion cubic meters of gas annually from the Caspian Sea to Central Europe via Turkey and Romania, bypassing Russia.

Meanwhile, the authorities in Kremlin press for the accelerate development of rival South Stream pipeline, which is seen delivering 31 billion cubic meters of Russian gas per year starting with 2015.
