Romania Pledged To Adjust Gas Prices To EU Levels By ’07- ANRE
Gergely said that back in 2004, on the backdrop of the gas price hike on the international markets, Romania tried to change the terms of the agreement but the European Union disagreed with it.
On the other hand, the Economy and Finance Ministry said in January that Romania did not negotiate the gas price levels with EU, adding that the country committed to gradually adjust gas prices in order to fully cover operational, financial, development and environment costs.
ANRE head attended Tuesday the hearings of the Chamber of Deputies’ Committee investigating abuses, corruption and petitions, which targeted the justification of ANRE decision to hike household natural gas prices by 8.5%.
ANRE said in January that household natural gas prices would be hiked by 8.5% February 1, to adjust the local gas prices with the higher prices for imported gas, while the price of natural gas from domestic production rose 5%.
Gergely was absent last Tuesday from the hearings of the committee, which was considered "defying" by the MPs.
