Germany, which recently had its car market unblocked, should order some 30,000 Dacia cars in the next two months, up 5,000 units compared to the entire last year, Iordache said.
He said Dacia employees will be required to work overtime to meet the demand.
“The primary objective is keeping as many jobs as possible. We’ve been informed by the plant’s managers that we have to step up the pace and we will, we are just sad that these orders are only for two months, given that our problem is the domestic market, which is dead,” Iordache said.
Dacia was forced to cut down daily production to 1085 units from 1360 units in 2008, following a severe decline in demand both on Romanian and international markets.
In addition, the carmaker halted production several times in the last three months of 2008 and in January this year and decided not to renew contracts for 920 workers out of 2800 staff hired on a finite period.
