Vosganian said the pitcoal company received subsidies of 338.9 million lei (EUR1-RON3.7379) in 2008 from the state budget under European Council Regulation 1407/ 2002 on state aid to the coal industry.

The minister also said Sunday that the leadership of Petrila mine in Hunedoara county, western Romania, was suspended, adding the deputy manager of the pitcoal company, Constantin Jujan, took the helm of the mine.

Vosganian pointed out that the mine’s leadership was suspended to allow objective and transparent investigations following the tragic incidents on Saturday when twelve miners died and other thirteen were severely injured in two powerful blasts.
