Basescu said that union representatives and public institution heads should organize committees to evaluate every employee’s performance by December.

The 25% cut of wage funds will come into force on June 1 and will last six months, said the president. Heads of central and local administration institutions must decide whom to fire by the end of 2010.

Basescu announced Thursday evening that pensions will fall by 15%, subsidies will be massively cut, unemployment aid will decrease by 15%, and public sector salary funds will be reduced by 25%, which will also affect minimum wages.
