Melescanu did not mention whether liberals would prefer to team up with leftist social democrats.
"We don’t have any likes or dislikes for one political force or the other, but we want our decision to be based on our participation in a government that assumes ideas, initiatives and measures that we have adopted. From this standpoint, we are one,” Melescanu said.
He added the Liberal Party will not make any pre-election alliances and said that according to opinion polls, none of Romania’s three major parties (liberals, social democrats and democrat liberals) will get a majority of votes in the elections in the fall. Melescanu said that would leave room for the creation of a governing coalition, which liberals are considering.
