Romania, Among States Least Dependent On Energy Imports – Eurostat

In 2006, the highest energy dependence rates were found in Cyprus (102%), Malta (100%), Luxembourg (99%) and Ireland (91%).

Denmark is a net exporter of energy and therefore has a negative energy dependence rate (-37%).

In 2006, net imports of energy in European Union rose by 2.4% to 1.01 million tons of oil equivalent, dominated by oil and gas, accounting for 60% and 26% respectively of the net imports.

The most important suppliers of crude oil and natural gas from outside the EU in 2006 were Russia (33% of oil imports and 40% of gas imports in 2006) and Norway (16% and 23% respectively).

As for the total energy production in 2006, Romania ranked tenth among the 27 states, with 27.4 million toe, down 0.1% from 2005 production.

The biggest energy producers in EU were United Kingdom, with 184 million toe, Germany, France, and Poland, which together accounted for more than 60% of total production in EU.

EU energy production in 2006 came from nuclear power (29% of total production), solid fuels (22%), gas (20%), renewables (15%) and crude oil (14%).

As for energy consumption, in 2006, Romania ranked 11th with 40.9 million toe, up 4.2% from a year earlier.
