The check-up was approved by Prime Minister Emil Boc, at the request of Tourism Minister Elena Udrea.

„The prime minister has approved the start of investigations and procedures are underway,” the sources said.

The Tourism Ministry said the institution’s activity is currently under scrutiny by the country’s public procurement watchdog, but confirmed the minister has required early September an investigation by the prime minister’s control body.

A parliament committee investigating the Tourism Ministry’s spending of public money is expected to complete next week a report of its findings and will call for the criminal investigation of the tourism minister.
