Seven Romanian Human Traffickers Get Jail Sentence In Spain

The Spanish Supreme Court ratified a sentence from the provincial court in Almeria which gave prison terms totaling 62 years to seven members of a Romanian network based in Vera which forced two countrywomen to work as prostitutes in local clubs, typicallyspanish.com reported Monday.

Europa Press reported that two of the suspects attacked one of the women as she was traveling by bus to Almeria to look for a job in September 2003.  the two seized her passport and forced her to work for them.
 
The woman worked in a local bar for a number of weeks, without pay, until she managed to escape and ask police for help.
 
The other woman was freed shortly by the Spanish Civil Guard.
 
The network’s victims will receive EUR30,000 compensation from their captors.
