Romanian Magistrates’ Association Challenges High Council Of Magistrates Head’s Appointment
The AMR president, judge Mona Pivniceru, told MEDIAFAX Saturday that the contestation was submitted with the High Court of Justice and the trial will start on April 22.
The Association of Romanian Magistrates demanded that the decision of the High Council of Magistrates appointing the president and the vice-president of the Council be cancelled.
Pivniceru said the contestation of Bejinaru’s appointment is based on aspects concerning certain moral issues, as the latter was accused of having been a Communist secret police collaborator, adding Isac’s appointment as vice-president was illegal.
Romanian judge Florica Bejinaru was unanimously elected president of the High Council of Magistrates on January 11, defeating the two other contenders, namely judge Ana Labus and deputy general prosecutor, Liviu Dascalescu. After Bejinaru’s election, prosecutor Gratiana Isac submitted her candidacy for vice-president of the Council.
Immediately after Bejinaru was elected president of the Council, the AMR honorary president, Viorica Costiniu, said she would propose the Association’s members to challenge Bejinaru’s appointment.
