„I don’t think this vote is a defeat. I am a strong man, with character and I will continue to uphold my message. None of those who backed me should feel disappointed. On the contrary, our battle will continue, because it is a battle for a normal Romania,” said Oprescu, who is mayor of Romania’s capital Bucharest.

Oprescu went on saying he has proposed a new model of candidate, the independent with no party strings attached and who does not need to bring along „packs of profiteers”.

He added his message was understood very well by Romanians. „Some of them came to vote and their voices were heard, others came to vote but their options will probably disappear along the way in the vote counts made by parties,” Oprescu said.

Exit-poll results place Oprescu somewhere around fourth-sixth place with less than 4% of the votes.
