Danube Tour by Bike is the first European bike tour along the river Danube, an organizer statement said. The route goes through Oryahovo, Lom, Vidin (Bulgaria), Prahovo (Serbia), Turnu Severin (Romania), Veliko Gradiste (Serbia) and Belgrade.

In the meantime, another group of 200 cyclists will leave Budapest, cross over into Croatia and also finish in Belgrade.

“’Danube Tour by Bike 2009’ is an opportunity to bring together people from Europe (EU member states, West Balkan states and Turkey), to encourage integration and dialogue and raise awareness of south-east Europe’s rich cultural patrimony. The Tour wishes to be the beginning of a European move to protect the Danube’s ecosystem,” the organizers’ statement said.
