In the first quarter, notebooks sold in Romania accounted for 66.8% in the total number of sales and 64.7% in value. Compared to the first quarter of 2008, notebook sales decreased 45.4% in volume and 55.9% in value.
Desktop sales decreased 80.5% on the year in the first quarter in volume and 80.4% in value. Desktops accounted for 31.3% in the total number of units sold and 25.4% in value.
Servers accounted for 1.9% of the volume of PC sales and the segment came close to 10% in value. Compared to the first quarter of 2008, the server segment decreased 62.9% in volume and 63.4% in value.
"After the sharp decrease in the first quarter, the market has started stabilizing in the second quarter. April was quite good for PC sales. Still, I expect the PC market to see a drop of 30-50% this year,” Valentin Negoita, head of the Romanian Association of Producers and Distributors of IT&C Equipment, told MEDIAFAX Thursday.
He added that, in Romania, the financial crisis is coupled with consumers’ lack of confidence in the recovery of the economy.
"Beside a financial crisis, we also have a confidence crisis. People have money but hesitate to buy because they don’t know what tomorrow brings. 2009 is the worst of the past ten years,” Negoita said.
