The draft law was initiated by eight MPs from all parties, and all Parliament groups announced in a plenary meeting that they will vote to instate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

According to democrat liberals Giurgiu Mircia and Petru Movila, the draft law is „symbolic” and „it does entail the need for any financial resources”.

The draft law was also passed in Senate, despite Government opposition. The Chamber of Deputies, the deciding structure in this matter, passed the law with 197 pros, 12 cons and 10 abstentions.
